Dublin Championships Report 2014

The Championships of County Dublin were held at Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club held on the 30th May to the 2nd June 2014.
A large crowd of croquet supporters came along to the presentation of the trophies and prizes after a wonderful 4 day croquet event. The weather was kind with no rain over the four days and two particular warm days on Friday and Saturday.

Observance of the rule of letting the Carrickmines croquet captain win 26 nil was observed by Danny Johnston and Evan Newell in the plate competition. However Fiachra Carroll did beat the croquet captain Gerard Osborne Burke twice so consideration is being given to banning him from future competitions. The singles championship The Railway Cup was won by Danny Johnston beating Simon Williams in the final. However Simon won the doubles The Coronation Bowls with Anne Marie McGowan who played a blinder against Stephen Strong and new comer Daniel Bennett.
The handicap singles, The Boxwell Cup, was won by Fiachra Carroll after a good fight put up by Joe McGowan who kept getting stuck in his hoops costing him the game.
A new Trophy kindly presented by Joe and Anne Marie McGowan = Missing Phantom Trophy" won by Anne Marie !! very appropriate and well deserved.

Mr. Evan Newell did his usual handicap reductions.
He would have reduced Simon Williams but can't put him any lower than he is.
Daniel Bennett 18 to 17, Fiachra Carroll 31/2 to 3, Alan Looney 8 reduced to 6, Anne Marie McGowan 17 to 16, Joe Mc Gowan 8 to 7, Gerard Osborne Burke 7 to 5
